Abstract:

Cílem práce je, na základě možnosti propojit metodu zkoumající meze filosofické interpretace určitého přírodovědeckého textu s metodou historické analýzy jeho kontextu, nalézt takový poměr mezi filosofií a speciální vědou, který by mohl být oboustranně přínosným. Konkrétní přírodovědný text - zde především Mendelova objevitelská práce Pokusy s hybridy rostlin - reprezentuje studijní materiál, na jehož základě lze narýsovat inspirační interakci, která by naznačila, jakým způsobem by mohl být obohacen určitý aspekt filosofických pohledů na svět a jeho poznávání. Práce vychází z originálu Versuche über pflanzenhybriden vydané tiskem v časopise Přírodovědného spolku v Brně v roce 1866. Dalším základním pramenem byl Mendelův rukopis této práce, jeho anglické překlady a nejnovější český kritický překlad A. Matalové, který byl k dispozici v rukopise připravovaném k vydání. Dále byly využity další Mendelovy původní texty, zejména Hieracium bastarde a Mendelova korespondence s Nägelim a jejich anglický a český překlad pořízený A. Matalovou. Mendelova práce spoluvytváří základnu, na které stojí dnešní vědy o životě. Přesto však nikdy nepanovala úplná shoda v tom, co vlastně pro tyto vědy znamená a jaký je její význam. To nakonec vedlo k formulování základní otázky zda Mendel byl, či nebyl mendelista, zejména ve vztahu k míře a významu jeho objevitelskému přínosu. Tato otázka směřuje k souboru problémů spojených s interpretací jeho objevu: Jestliže totiž uznáme, že Mendel byl mendelistou, mendelismus sám je historicky překonaná etapa ve vývoji genetiky a biologického myšlení obecně. Teze práce argumentují, že Mendel nebyl jenom mendelistou, ale že byl něčím víc. Dnes totiž ani nejde pouze o to zda Mendel byl, či nebyl mendelistou. Mnohem důležitější je zjistit, zda je, přesně řečeno – v jeho vědeckém textu, ještě něco dalšího. A pokud ano, co to je, co nám to dnes říká, jaký to pro nás může mít význam a jak to lze interpretovat? Jaké jsou meze (jsou-li tedy nějaké) takové dnešní interpretace podobného přírodovědného textu z poloviny 19. století? Mendelismus učinil v interpretaci Mendelovy práce významový posun. Tato teze je východiskem pro novou interpretaci Mendelova textu: Mendela lze dnes nejlépe interpretovat rámci konceptu bioinformace. Nejvhodnější metodou interpretace jádra významu Mendelova objevitelského textu je aplikace systémové teorie a teorie informace. Klíčové je Mendelovo užívání termínů Anordnung der Elemente (uspořádanost elementů) a Materielle Beschaffenheit (materiální skladba). Mendel objevil a poprvé popsal novou oblast jevů pomocí těchto nových termínů. Jde o oblast bioinformace, která je přenášena v informačním toku živých systémů. Taková interpretace Mendela nám může něco říci jednak o vývoji a podstatě věd o životě, o tom co je to věda jako taková, ale je také inspirativní a představuje výzvu pro nastupující XXI. století.

Problems in the Philosophical Interpretations of the Scientific Text: G. J. Mendel The aim of the thesis is to investigate the ways of understanding and the limits of representations of Mendel's treatises on hybrids of plants. Reasons for the different, even contradictory interpretations of Mendel's findings are drawn from literary sources and archival documents pertaing to Mendel's Pisum and Hieracium papers and scientific correspondence. Philosophical and historiographic approach is considered within the particular contexts in which Mendel, his proponents and critics wrote. First Mendel was propagated as a father of heredity, later as the founder of genetics. Biologists found Mendel's elements corresponding reasonably well to what we now call the genes or alleles. My argument is that Mendel is not only „the first geneticist“ but his theoretical deliberations have a much significant meaning. A discussion presents how the impact of Mendel's discovery evolved in the course of three centuries. The evaluation of Mendel's experiments with traits were first understood as a description of hereditary endowment. But in his paper Mendel relates the behaviour of observed traits to the material character and arrangement of the elements. The composition of elements cannot be understood as if the described combinations of traits represented directly the combinations of proposed elements. Such an extrapolation Mendel never did being well aware of the danger of speculation. The Concluding Remarks of Mendels Pisum paper are first presented as the most valuable part of Mendel's achievement. The general significance of the Concluding Remarks is approached here with the method of the systems theory and the theory of information. Mendel's introducing the terms „arrangement of elements“ and „material character“ in the general discussion of his results in the Concluding Remarks are crucial for proving that Mendel was interpreting the significance of his discovery in a new context of systems and information sciences. Mendel opened a new scientific discipline constructed on a new entity that had not been appropriated by the existing scientific disciplines. He implemented a new strategy and projected it into his instrumental experiments to search for the verification of his novel concept. Mendel knew well that his concept was new and isolated . He could not find anybody who would become identified with his special way of thinking at that time. The thesis shows that Mendel's achievement may be most accurately interpreted in terms of the discipline of bioinformation. Bioinformation studies the flow of hereditary information through generations and its realization in concrete time and space. Such novel approach avoids the shortcoming of ascribing to Mendel the discovery of genetic information on the level of the cell nucleus only. Mendel's concept of the cell contributes to the clarification how the development of life sciences system developed and how instrumentalization of biological research was established and mastered in incorporating the new findings into the body of knowledge. Such positioning of Mendel's discovery in the development of world culture can extend precision of science as such and become inspirative and provoking for XXI. century called the age of information.
