The overall aim of this bachelor paper is to analyze gender and race issues in Zora Neale Hurston?s work. In the first chapters the theories of gender and race as well as the description of Black English are defined. Cílem této bakalářské práce je analýza otázky pohlaví a rasy v díle Zory Neale Hurstonové. Úvodní kapitoly se zabývají obecným pojetím pohlaví a rasy a také popisem afroamerické angličtiny. Dále práce popisuje sociální pozadí Afroameričanů v dílech afroamerických spisovatelů a krátce představuje kulturní hnutí Harlemské renesance.
