Kolagen typu I je schopný aktivovat polymorfonukleární neutrofily k produkci reaktivních kyslíkových metabolitů. K této aktivaci je potřebný receptor alfaLbeta2 na povrchu neutrofilů. Reaktivní kyslíkové metabolity produkované při zánětu mohou v určitých případech poškodit ne jenom patogeny, ale i okolní buňky a také okolní mezibuněčnou hmotu. Abstract:
Type I collagen triggers the production of reactive oxygen species by polymorpfonuclear neutrophils. AlfaLbeta2 integrin is involved in the stimulation of neutrophils. Liberation of reactive oxygen species in processes of inflammation may damage collagen fibrils.
