An extended diet problem and its complexity

Abstract:

This thesis presents extended mixed integer linear optimization models which help a nutrition adviser to plan menu for one or more clients. The models respect the clients' eating habits or favourite recipes, prevent unbalanced nutrition, ensure dietary recommendations, and prevent wastage of food items. The models ensure that the clients' daily recommended intakes of nutrients are met, that certain nutrients are balanced in the respective proportion when applicable, and that the energy intake is naturally distributed during the whole day. Using the mixed integer linear programming models, we compute the corresponding balanced diet plans for the clients for several days. The final dietary plans for them are as acceptable as possible. The models are discussed from the point of complexity and NP-completeness. The models are NP-hard in general, but they are solvable in polynomial time under certain assumptions.

Abstract:

Tato práce přináší rozšířené modely smíšené celočíselné lineární optimalizace, které mohou pomoci nutričním terapeutům sestavovat jídelníčky pro jednoho nebo více klientů. Modely respektují stravovací návyky nebo oblíbené recepty, předcházejí plýtvání potravinami, také respektují doporučené denní dávky živin, předcházejí nutričním disbalancím, dokáží vyvážit nutrienty v potřebném poměru a rozvrhnout příjem energie přirozeně během celého dne. Využitím zkonstruovaných modelů smíšeného celočíselného lineárního programování spočítáme odpovídající vyvážené dietní plány pro několik lidí na několik dní dopředu. Modely jsou v práci rozebírány z pohledu teoretické informatiky, a to z pohledu složitosti a NP-úplnosti. V obecnosti jsou NP-těžké, ale za určitých předpokladů lze modely vyřešit v polynomiálním čase.
