A Contribution to the Czech Aesthetic Thought in the 19th Century.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vztah akademické i neakademické estetiky a národní kultury během národního obrození. Úvodní část práce se zaměřuje na etablování estetiky jako vědy na akademické půdě, s přihlédnutím nejenom k jejím vlivům na první obrozeneckou generaci, ale i ke způsobu nazírání na povahu a úlohu estetiky a umění v rodící se české společnosti. Tento názorový horizont je popsán pomocí vybraných estetických sporů v literatuře (spor o prosodii) a hudbě (spor o Smetanu), které otázku národního umění a její povahy zpřítomňují a zároveň tak tematizují dobovou potřebu emancipace od německých inspirativních vlivů, jež vyvěrají z nejasné podoby a charakteru národní kultury a identity.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the relationship between academic and non-academic aesthet-ics and national culture during the national revival. The introductory part of the the-sis focuses on the establishment of aesthetics as a scholary discipline, taking into ac-count not only its influence on the first revivalist generation, but also the way of looking at the nature and role of aesthetics and art in the emerging Czech society. This horizon of opinion is described by means of selected aesthetic disputes in literature (the dispute over prosody) and music (the dispute over Smetana), which brought the question of national art and its nature to the fore and thus thematized the contemporary need for emancipation from German influences, which stemmed from the unclear form and character of national culture and identity.
