Analysis of the transparent insincerity: ironic communication in Astérix and Persepolis

Abstract:

Main topic of my thesis is communication. Amongst many figures and tropes i´ve focussed my attention on irony. In this thesis, inspired by Ekkehard Eggs, I name it as a „transparent insincerity“ and I analyze its expressions in comic books Astérix and Persepolis. During the development of the communication structure of irony, as well as during the analysis, I use the Catherine Kerbrat- Orecchioni´s structure and her pragmatic approach. In the practical part, I analyze three types of irony: dialogic, dramatic and pictographic. This classification has been influenced mostly by specific form of the chosen corpus. The aim of this thesis is to find out how do these two kinds of communication (irony, comic) cooperate in the communication transfer. How does the ironic figure use the specific form of comic and what kind of message can it transfer this way? Is comic, despite of all the doubts, a real art, able to create conditions for figure as irony?

Abstract:

Ústrednou témou mojej diplomovej práce je komunikácia. Spomedzi mnohých figúr a trópov, ktoré sú jej súčasťou, som sa rozhodla venovať svoju pozornosť irónii. Vo svojej práci, inšpirujúc sa koncepciou Ekkehard-a Eggs-a, ju označujem termínom " priehľadná neúprimnosť", ktorej prejavy analyzujem v komiksoch Astérix a Persepolis. Pri vytvárani komunikačnej schémy irónie, rovnako ako aj pri samotnej analýze, výchádzam zo schémy Catherine Kerbrat-Orecchioni a jej pragmatického prístupu. V praktickej časti analyzujem tri typy irónie: dialogickú, dramatickú a obrázkovú. Táto klasifikácia je ovplyvnená hlavne špecifickou formou vybraného korpusu. Cieľom práce je zistiť akým spôsobom tieto dva spôsoby komunikácie / irónia, komiks/ spolupracujú pri prenose informácie. Ako ironická figúra využíva formu komiksu a aký druh správy môže takto prenášať? Je komiks aj napriek pochybnostiam mnohých skutočným umením, schopným vytvoriť podmienky pre figúru ako je irónia?
