Experience of partner jealousy among young women: An association to the closeness of relationship, trust in partner, women’s self-esteem and length of relationship

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývala souvislostmi partnerské žárlivosti s hodnocením míry blízkosti vztahu, partnerskou důvěrou, sebehodnocením ženy a délkou vztahu. Na základě teorie multidimenzionální žárlivosti byla žárlivost rozdělena do třech dimenzí – kognitivní, emocionální a behaviorální. Prvním cílem výzkumu bylo nalézt souvislosti mezi jednotlivými dimenzemi žárlivosti a zmíněnými proměnnými. Druhým cílem bylo zjistit, zdali se v celkové míře žárlivosti liší ženy, které předpokládají, že pociťují větší blízkost vztahu než jejich partneři, od žen, které si myslí, že pociťují stejnou, popřípadě menší blízkost vztahu. V konečném výzkumném vzorku bylo 222 žen ve věku od 18 do 25 let, které prožívají nebo nedávno prožily partnerský vztah. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že kognitivní a behaviorální žárlivostí má největší souvislosti s partnerskou důvěrou, poté s hodnocením blízkosti vztahu z pohledu ženy a nakonec s tím, jak daná žena smýšlí o hodnocení blízkosti vztahu ze strany partnera. Emocionální žárlivost oproti tomu byla nejvíce spojena s blízkostí vztahu z pohledu ženy, poté s jejím sebehodnocením a nakonec s partnerskou důvěrou. Výzkum rovněž potvrdil předpokládané rozdíly mezi dvěma skupinami respondentek. Konkrétně bylo zjištěno, že větší míru žárlivosti projevují ženy, které si myslí, že pociťují větší blízkost vztahu oproti svým partnerům, než ženy, které předpokládají, že pociťují stejnou, popřípadě menší míru blízkosti.

Abstract:

The current study dealt with the associations between partner jealousy, closeness of relationship, dyadic trust, women’s self-esteem and length of relationship. Based on theory of multidimensional jealousy, it was divided into three dimensions – cognitive, emotional a behavioral. The main aim of this study was to identify and describe connections between the different dimensions of jealousy and the above mentioned variables. Further, the study examined the differences in jealousy among women who think they feel greater relationship closeness than their partners and those who assume they feel equal or lesser relationship closeness then their partners. The sample consisted of women aged from 18 to 25 years who were in romantic relationship. It was found that the cognitive and behavioral jealousy was associated with dyadic trust, closeness of relationship and women’s interpretation of feelings of closeness from a partner’s point of view. The emotional jealousy was associated mostly with the women’s feeling of relationship closeness, her self-esteem and finally dyadic trust. The results also confirmed the predicted differences between two groups of respondents. It was found that women who think they feel greater relationship closeness than their partner are more likely to be jealousy.
