Motivational factors for corrective aesthetic breast procedures and their impact on health

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zaměřuje na identifikaci a hodnocení motivačních faktorů ke korektivním estetickým výkonům prsou a zamýšlí se nad jejich vlivem na zdraví žen. Výzkumným nástrojem je validovaný dotazník BREAST-Q, prostřednictvím kterého jsou předoperačně a pooperačně hodnoceny domény zdraví u žen před a po estetickém chirurgickém výkonu (před a po augmentaci, redukci nebo mastopexi prsou). Analýzou pilotní studie v rámci České republiky byla získána data od 158 žen, která lze využít při práci s pacientkami přicházejícími do ordinací plastických chirurgů se záměrem podstoupit operaci prsou z kosmetických důvodů. Z analyzovaných dat vyplývá, že lze významným způsobem ovlivnit kvalitu péče o ženy podstupující elektivní estetické operační výkony s ohledem na racionální přístup k významu i dopadům operačního výkonu. Disertační práce poukazuje na nezbytnost správně porozumět motivačním faktorům žen k estetickému zákroku a dále na to, jak s konkrétními motivátory pracovat a využít je k žádoucímu formování zodpovědnosti pacientek za vlastní zdraví v klinické praxi.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis focuses on the identification and assessment of motivational factors for corrective aesthetic breast procedures and considers their impact on women's health. The research employs the validated BREAST-Q questionnaire to evaluate preoperative and postoperative health domains in women undergoing aesthetic surgery (before and after breast augmentation, reduction, or mastopexy). Data from a pilot study conducted in the Czech Republic (data from 158 women) were analysed, providing valuable insights applicable to working with patients seeking cosmetic breast surgery in plastic surgery clinics. The analyzed data suggests that the quality of care for women undergoing elective aesthetic surgical procedures can be significantly influenced by a rational approach to understanding the meaning and impacts of the surgical intervention. The dissertation thesis emphasizes the importance of understanding women's motivational factors for aesthetic procedures, advocating for working with and leveraging these motivators for promoting responsible patient engagement with their own health in clinical practice.
