The Issue of usage variegated cultivars of the genus Peperomia in horticulture

Abstract:

Teoretická část této bakalářské práce se zaměřuje na problematiku panašovaných rostlin. Byla provedena rešeršní analýza literárních pramenů na zmíněné téma v oblasti původu, ekologie a způsobů množení. Je zde také nastíněna stručná charakteristika rodu Peperomia a jejich pestrobarevných zástupců. V rámci praktické části byla ověřována schopnost zachovávání panašování listu při vegetativním způsobu množení prostřednictvím listu u dvou zástupců rodu Peperomia, konkrétně u Peperomia macrostachya (Vahl) A.Dietr. a Peperomia orba G.S.Bunting. Byl zkoumán vliv různé přípravy listových řízků na zachování panašování u nově vznikajících rostlin a na celkový počet nových rostlin. Bylo zjištěno, že způsob seříznutí listu při přípravě listových řízků nemá vliv na výslednou podobu rostliny. Nejvyšší zastoupení měly zelené formy rostlin, zatímco nejméně bylo panašovaných rostlin. Bylo prokázáno, že způsob seříznutí listu má vliv na výsledný počet nových rostlin. Tento faktor může poukázat na možnost využití konkrétních způsobů úpravy listových řízků pro množení jiných rostlin, s cílem získání většího koeficientu nových rostlin. Případně může být použita tato práce pro zkoumání tohoto vlivu na jiných panašovaných kultivarech rostlin.

Abstract:

The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of variegated plants. A search analysis on the topic, covering the areas of origin, ecology and propagation methods was conducted. A brief characterization of the genus Peperomia and their variegated representatives is also outlined. In the practical part, the ability to maintain the variegation of leaf during vegetative propagation via the leaf was verified in two representatives of the genus Peperomia, namely Peperomia macrostachya (Vahl) A.Dietr. and Peperomia orba G.S.Bunting. The effect of different preparation of leaf cuttings on the retention of variegation in newly emerging plants and on the total number of new plants was investigated. It was found that the method of leaf cutting during preparation did not affect the resulting plant appearance. The green forms of plants had the highest abundance, while the lowest abundance had variegated plants. The method of leaf cutting was shown to effect the final number of new plants. This factor may point to the possibility of using specific methods of leaf cuttings for propagation of other plants, in order to obtain a higher coefficient of new plants. Alternatively, this work can be used to investigate this effect on other similar plant cultivars.
