The Development of Community-based Tourism in Shuar Communities in Ecuador

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o rozvoji komunitního turismu v Ekvádoru u etnika Shuarů v regionu Morona Santiago. Použité metody zjišťování jsou literární rešerše, rozhovory s místními podnikateli a jejich následná obsahová analýza. Práce se zabývá rozvojem komunitního turismu, produkty a nápady, které místní nabízejí, a dále je zaměřena na to, jak tento typ podnikání vnímá místní komunita. Pojednává o financování, legislativě a organizacích, které jsou do turismu zapojeny, a celkově o jeho fungování. Zohledňuje výtěžek z podnikání, to, co se s ním děje a na co jej místní lidé využívají. V neposlední řadě pojednává o sebepropagaci a marketingu, udržitelném rozvoji a udržitelném turismu. Výsledky výzkumu ukazují, že právní normy aplikované v oblasti komunitního turismu se někdy rozchází s realitou, která je reflektována skrze odpovědi místních podnikatelů.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis discusses the development of community-based tourism in Ecuador among the Shuar community in the region of Morona Santiago. The methods of investigation are literature review, interviews with the local entrepreneurs and their subsequent content analysis. The thesis focuses on the development of community tourism, the products and ideas offered by the locals, as well as how this type of business is perceived by the local community. It discusses the funding, legislation and organizations involved in tourism, and the overall operation of tourism. It considers the proceeds of the business, what happens to it and what local people use it for. Finally, it discusses self-promotion and marketing, sustainable development, and sustainable tourism. The research results show that the legal norms applied in the field of community tourism sometimes diverge from the reality that is reflected through the responses of local entrepreneurs.
