Relationships and daydreaming in people with schizophrenia

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je přiblížit zkušenost osob se schizofrenním onemocněním s prožíváním vztahů a oblastí denního snění. V rámci práce je vymezena schizofrenie, její klinický obraz, popsána diagnostika a subtypy onemocnění, propuknutí, průběh a prognóza schizofrenie. Prostor je věnován sociálnímu prostředí a jeho vzájemnému vztahu s průběhem onemocnění. Dále dennímu snění, které lze považovat za adaptivní formu sociální kognice. Empirická část je založena na kvalitativním přístupu; metodou pro sběr dat bylo polostrukturované interview, realizované s pěti respondenty. Analýza a intepretace dat probíhala v souladu s IPA. V práci jsou prezentovány jednotlivé případy a souhrnná analýza napříč případy. Vztahy označují respondenti jako významné a touží po naplnění vztahových potřeb, často prožívali samotu. Identifikovali faktory, které vedly k odcizení s blízkými a také to, co by jim ve vztazích pomohlo. Vztahy působily na průběh onemocnění pozitivně i negativně. Denní sny v některých případech sloužily jako kompenzace vztahových potřeb, snaží se je vědomě kontrolovat. Výsledky výzkumu odpovídají předchozím výzkumným zjištěním, přináší vhled do zkušenosti osob se schizofrenií.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to describe the experience of people suffering from schizophrenia with personal relationships and daydreaming. The clinical picture of schizophrenia, its diagnosis and sub-types of the disease, its outbreak, progression and prognosis are all described as part of this thesis. A section is devoted to the social environment and its relationship to the course of the disease. Furthermore, the focus is also on daydreaming, which can be considered an adaptive form of social cognition. The empirical part of the thesis is based on a qualitative approach; the method for data collection was a semi-structured interview, conducted with five respondents. Data analysis and interpretation was in line with IPA. Individual cases and a summary analysis across cases are both presented. Respondents consider relationships to be significant and long for the fulfillment of their relationship needs, they often feel lonely. They identified factors that led to alienation from loved ones, as well as what would help them in relationships. Relationships had both a positive and negative effect on the course of the disease. In some cases, daydreams served as compensation for relationship needs, they attempt to consciously control them. The research results correspond to previous research findings, bringing insight into the experience of people with schizophrenia.
