Somali Piracy in the Gulf of Aden and its Impact on the Global Economic Sector

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je věnována problematice somálského pirátství v Adenském zálivu a v oblasti Afrického rohu. Hlavním cílem práce je analýza dopadů somálského pirátství na globální ekonomický sektor. Velká pozornost je také věnována mezinárodní spolupráci, která v regionu probíhá. Navzdory úspěchům zaznamenaných v posledních letech při potírání pirátství, představuje fenomén moderního pirátství stále vážnou hrozbu pro mezinárodní prostředí. Mezinárodní společenství je každoročně nuceno vynakládat obrovské finanční částky na potírání pirátství a boj proti němu. Právě mezinárodní spolupráce, doprovodné konvoje, přítomnost válečných lodí v oblasti a přítomnost soukromých bezpečnostních týmů na palubách lodí jsou klíčovým mixem, díky kterému lze pirátství víceméně úspěšně čelit.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the problems of the Somali piracy in the Gulf of Aden and in the Horn of Africa. The main aim of the thesis is the analysis of the impacts of the Somali piracy on the global economic sector. It is also focused on the international cooperation, which is located in the region. Despite of the success, achieved during the last few years, modern piracy still remains the serious threat to the international environment. The international community have to pay a lot of money to deter the piracy threat and fight against pirates. The international cooperation, a shipping escort, the presence of many warships and the presence of the private security teams on the boards of the commercial ships - this is the best combination, how to successfully counter the piracy in the region.
