Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem identity na základě literárních děl, jejichž autory jsou původní obyvatelé Ameriky. Práce vychází z románu Leslie Marmon Silko Ceremony, dále z díla Anny Lee Walters Talking Indian a autobiografického díla American Indian Stories, jehož autorkou je Zitkala Sa. Nejdříve jsou určeny elementy, které se podílejí na utváření identity původních obyvatel Ameriky a kterým je také věnována pozornost ve vybraných dílech. Tyto elementy jsou poté zkoumány z hlediska svého významu pro utváření identity jednotlivce. Společným motivem vybraných literárních děl je poevropšťování původních obyvatel Ameriky, a tedy nevyhnutelný střet dvou naprosto odlišných kultur, což způsobuje vnitřní boj hlavních postav ústící v nejistotu a postupnou ztrátu vlastní identity. Právě na tento problém se tato bakalářská práce snaží uporoznit. Dále je sledováno jejich vyrovnání se s tímto problémem a následné opětovné hledání identity. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty její hlavní body a myšlenky a zahrnut je též stručný komentář ke zkoumanému problému.

Abstract:

This Bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of identity as it is depicted in the works of Native American authors. Leslie Marmon Silko's novel Ceremony, Anna Lee Walters' work Talking Indian and Zitkala Sa's autobiographical work American Indian Stories were chosen to provide guidelines for the thesis. First, the elements participating in creation of a Native American identity are pointed out, that are emphasized and most discussed in the works. They are then observed and their role in identity creating is explained. The linking theme of the literary works chosen is Europeanization of Native American folks, which suggest an inevitable clash of two diametrically different cultures. The inner struggle of the main characters caused by it leads to uncertainty and gradual loss of their identity, which is the main point this thesis wants to draw attention to. Their subsequent search for identity is followed, observing and comparing how each of them faces this problem. The conclusion summarizes the main points and ideas of the thesis and provides a short commentary on the problem discussed.
