Abstract:

Jaroslav Benda je jedním z hlavních představitelů knižní grafiky počátku 20. století. Tato práce se zaměřuje na systematizaci jeho základního knižního díla, které vytvořil do roku 1918. Všímá si změn v jeho tvorbě, které nastaly v závislosti na vlivu převládajících uměleckých směrů, na uměleckých organizacích či potřebách jednotlivých nakladatelů. Důraz je kladen na významné tituly, které se jeví být zásadními v kontextu kulturního a uměleckého vývoje v oblasti knižní grafiky a výtvarného umění. V krátkých pasážích se práce zaměřuje i na teorii typografie a plakátové tvorby, které s knižní grafikou úzce souvisejí.

Abstract:

Jaroslav Benda is one of the leading representatives of book graphics of the early 20th century. This thesis is focused on systematizing the basics of his book graphics, created until the year 1918. Thesis notes the changes in his work, that occured in relation to prevailing art styles, art organizations or needs of individual publishers. Emphasis is put on major titles, which appear to be essential in the context of cultural and artistic developement in the field of book graphics and fine art. In brief passages the thesis fucuses on the theory of typography and poster design, which is closely related to the topic of book graphics.
