S postupující postmoderní komodifikací subkultur a s nevyhnutelným pronikáním subkulturních symbolů do mainstreamové kultury můžeme zaznamenat také zvyšující se potřebu subkultur se vymezit vůči neustálému vykořisťování a zkreslování subkulturních symbolů. With the increasing postmodern commodification of subcultures and their gradual infiltration into the mainstream discourse, subcultures increasingly feel the need to define their position against the deployment, exploitation and misrepresentation of their subcultural symbols in the mainstream culture.
