Changes in problem solving skills depending on the development of problem posing skills in mathematics

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce představuje výsledky experimentální výuky, která se zabývala vztahem problem solving a problem posing. Konkrétně jsme se pokusili zodpovědět otázku, zda když žáky naučíme vytvářet nové úlohy, popř. modifikovat staré, zda se obecně zlepší jejich schopnost řešit základoškolské matematické úlohy. Vzhledem k nastavení experimentální výuky jsme nemohli využít možnost sledovat změny v dovednosti řešit úlohy na přímo, zvolili jsme si, sledování určitých atributů žáka, o kterých se domníváme, že popisují žákovu dovednost. Jedná se o tyto atributy: matematická inteligence, tvořivost, čtenářská gramotnost a dovednost použít stávající poznatky. Vzhledem k velikosti vzorku své výsledky nemůžeme opřít o statistické zpracování dat. Přesto se domníváme, že určité změny u žáka můžeme připsat působení experimentální výuky. Konkrétně se jedná o zlepšení žákova školního výkonu a zlepšení dovednosti použít stávající znalosti. Validita výsledků je však zatížena nejistotou, která vyplývá z velikosti vzorku.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis introduces the results of experimental teaching, which was focused on the relationship between problem solving and problem posing. Specifically, we tried to answer the question of if we teach pupils to create new mathematical problems, or modify the old, whether their ability to solve elementary school mathematical problems will generally improve. Due to the setting of experimental teaching, we could not employ the option to monitor changes in the ability to solve problems directly, we chose to monitor certain attributes of the pupil, which we believe describe said pupil's ability. These attributes are: mathematical intelligence, creativity, reading literacy and the ability to use existing knowledge. Due to the size of the sample, we cannot base our results on statistical data processing. Nevertheless, we believe that certain changes in the pupil can be attributed to the effect of experimental teaching. Specifically, they are the improvement of pupil's school performance and the improvement of the ability to use existing knowledge. However, the validity of the results is burdened by the uncertainty that results from the sample size.
