Ostracoda of calcareous spring fens in the Western Carpathians

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá lasturnatkami (Ostracoda, Crustacea) pramenných biotopů. Rešeršní část shrnuje biologii lasturnatek, dosavadní poznatky o ekologii lasturnatek pramenů a charakterizaci prameništních slatinišť. Praktická část se zabývá (i) srovnáním lasturnatek prameništních slatinišť v oblasti Západních Karpat s lasturnatkami pramenů v jiných, především evropských oblastech, (ii) srovnáním druhové bohatosti jednotlivých typů prameništních slatinišť, (iii) popisem společenstev lasturnatek na pěnovcových prameništích a (iv) faktorů ovlivňujících jejich druhové sloţení. Pro praktickou část této práce bylo vybráno 30 prameništních slatinišť se sráţením pěnovce, studovaných v rámci projektu zaměřeného na vliv faktorů prostředí a schopnosti šíření na skladbu společenstev vodních bezobratlých v izolovaných prameništních slatiništích. Vzorky byly odebírány v červnu v letech 2008, 2011 a 2012. Při vzorkování byly také měřeny fyzikální a chemické faktory prostředí. Celkem bylo na pěnovcových prameništích zaznamenáno 22 taxonů lasturnatek a z toho 19 bylo určeno do druhu. Bylo zjištěno, ţe společenstva lasturnatek pěnovcových prameništních slatinišť v Západních Karpatech jsou velmi podobná společenstvům pramenů v Alpách a jejich druhové sloţení ovlivňuje především průměrná roční teplota vzduchu, průměrné roční sráţky a konduktivita. Uspořádání skupin lokalit ve shlukové analýze odráţí odlišnost druhového sloţení lasturnatek na lokalitách s hlubší vrstvou slati, převahou stojaté či pomalu tekoucí vody a méně intenzivním sráţením pěnovce oproti lokalitám, které jsou méně slatinné, převaţuje na nich rychleji proudící voda a pěnovec se sráţí intenzivněji, často i v souvislých plochách. Jistý vliv na společenstva lasturnatek pěnovcových prameništních slatinišť má geografický gradient v západo-východním směru.

Abstract:

This thesis was focused on the assemblages of ostracods (Crustacea) of various spring habitats. The bibliographic search summarized the biology of ostracods, current knowledge on the ecology of spring ostracods and characterization of the spring fens. The practical part of the thesis dealt with (i) a comparison of ostracods known from the Western Carpathian spring fens with ostracods from spring habitats in other, mainly European, regions, (ii) a comparison of species richness of different types of the spring fens, (iii) a description of the ostracod assemblages in the calcareous spring fens, and (iv) a determination of environmental factors affecting their species composition. For the practical part of this work, 30 calcareous spring fens with tufa precipitation was chosen from sites studied within the project focused on the influence of environmental factors and dispersion abilities on composition of macroinvertebrate communities in isolated spring fens. Samples of ostracods were taken in June in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Physical and chemical environmental factors were measured at each site. In total, 22 ostracod taxa were recorded on calcareous spring fens, 19 of which were identified to the species level. Assemblages of ostracods in calcareous spring fens in the Western Carpathians were found to be very similar to those of Alpine springs and their species composition was influenced mainly by the mean annual air temperature, mean annual precipitation and water conductivity. The agglomeration of sites in the cluster analysis reflected different species composition of assemblages at sites with a greater peat layer, predominance of stagnant or slow flowing water and less intense precipitation of tufa than at sites, which were characterized by thin peat layer, predominantly flowing water and more intense tufa precipitation, often creating continuous tufa patches. Geographic gradient in the west-east direction has some influence on the species composition of ostracod assemblages in the calcareous spring fens as well.
