High-speed Railways Project in the US

Abstract:

The aim of this Master´s thesis entitled High-Speed Rail Project in the USA is to determine whether there are favorable conditions for the success of the public project of High-Speed Rail in the present-day USA as well as to identify its potential benefits and shortcomings. The Thesis in this context focuses mainly on three aspects – politics, public administration and economy – and compares them with the international experience from Japan, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, i.e. countries with longstanding and successful tradition of high speed rails. Last but not least, the potential benefits and shortcomings of the US High-Speed Rail Project are summarized.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce Projekt vysokorýchlostných železníc v USA je zistiť, či sú v súčasnom USA vhodné podmienky pre úspech verejného projektu vysokorýchlostných železníc ako aj identifikovať ich potenciálne prínosy a nedostatky. V práci je v tejto súvislosti predstavená súvisiaca problematika, pričom pozornosť sústreďujeme hlavne na politicko-verejnosprávne a ekonomické aspekty, ktoré komparujeme s medzinárodnými skúsenosťami v Japonsku, Francúzsku, Nemecku, Španielsku a Taliansku, t.j. v krajinách, kde majú vysokorýchlostné železnice tradíciu a úspech. V neposlednom rade sumarizuje potenciálne prínosy a nedostatky amerického systému vysokorýchlostných železníc.
