The Understanding of Freedom in the Philosophy of Charlese Louise Montesquieu

Abstract:

Obsahem této bakalářské práce je osobnost velmi významného francouzského filozofa Charlese Louise de Montesquieua, který žil v 18. století a svými myšlenkami ovlivnil celou tehdejší filozofii a společnost. Zaměříme se na jeho život, myšlenky, díla. Stěžejním tématem bude pojetí svobody Charlese Louise de Montesquieua. K tomu využijeme jeho dvě nejvýznamnější díla O duchu zákonů a Perské listy. Vysvětlíme si, jak Montesquieu sám chápal svobodu a jak ji rozděloval. Nejprve se ale důkladněji zaměříme na samotný pojem svoboda a přiblížíme si ho z pohledu různých filozofických slovníků a také z pohledu dějin. Ačkoliv je to pojem často používaný, je velmi těžké ho definovat.

Abstract:

The content of this bachelor thesis is the personality of an important French philosopher Charles Louis de Montesquieu, who lived in the 18th century and who influenced the former philosophy and society. We will focus on his life, thoughts, works. The main theme will be his understanding of freedom. We connect freedom with his most significant works The Spirit of the Laws and Persian Letters. We will explain how Montesquieu understood freedom and how he divided it. Firstly, we will focus on the term of freedom and then we will take closer look to it from the different aspects of philosophical dictionaries and also from the historical aspect. Although this term is very used, it is very difficult to define it
