The spatialization of rappers in Nice

Abstract:

Ways of expressing territorial identity in the texts of rappers from the Alpes-Maritimes department are the central topic of this bachelor's thesis. The corpus contains fifty texts from ten rappers (eight men and two women) who can be considered as representatives of the local rap scene. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the basic onomastic concepts and from a sociolinguistic point of view examines the relationship of toponyms and identity and their role in rap. Coastal and mountain department adjacent to Italy is historically linked to this neighbour rather than to France, therefore one of the topics of the work is the analysis of these historical and geographical influences on population identity. While selected texts refer very rarely to Italy, the relationship to the central France, Paris, is more noticeable. Paris is not seen as a prism of peripherality, but rather shows the elements of cohesion and solidarity between people who share their social marginalization. At the level of the city of Nice itself, due to large socio-economic differences between the individual districts, the view of the performers on their residence is analysed. Specific micro-toponyms of individual districts as well as more general are most often in contexts where the main topics are drugs, police, violence, money, or human relations. The development and frequency of toponyms and appellatives are then analysed in the period 2013-2020. In recent years, a decrease in toponyms referring to the department and an increase in appellations describing urban space has been observed. The younger rappers (like Tarik and Nakry) refer to the space by common names, while the work of artists who have been on the rap scene for a long time (Veust Lyricist and Jason Voriz) contains more toponyms. As for the female rappers Jehnia and Fanny Polly, they refer to the place very rarely.

Způsoby vyjádření teritoriální identity v textech raperů z departmentu Alpes-Maritimes jsou ústředním tématem této bakalářské práce. Východiskem se stalo padesát textů deseti interpretů (osmi raperů a dvou raperek), které lze považovat za reprezentanty lokální rapové scény. Teoretická část práce definuje základní onomastické pojmy a ze sociolingvistického úhlu pohledu nahlíží na vztah toponym k identitě a na jejich roli v rapu. Přímořský a hornatý departement sousedící s Itálií je historicky spjatý spíše s tímto svým sousedem než s Francií, jedním z předmětů práce je tedy i analýza těchto historicko-geografických vlivů na identitu obyvatel. Zatímco na sousední Itálii odkazují vybrané texty velmi řídce, vztah k centru Francie, Paříži, je vyjádřen markantněji. Paříž není viděna prismatem perifernosti, spíše se tu projevují prvky soudržnosti a solidarity mezi lidmi, kteří sdílí svou marginalizaci sociální. Na úrovni samotného města Nice je vzhledem k velkým socioekonomickým rozdílům mezi jednotlivými čtvrtěmi analyzován především pohled interpretů na své bydliště. Konkrétní mikrotoponyma jednotlivých čtvrtí i obecnější apelativa se prostorovým referentem vstupují nejčastěji do kontextů, kde jsou hlavními tématy drogy, policie, násilí, peníze nebo mezilidské vztahy. Vývoj četnosti toponym a apelativ je následně analyzován v rozmezí let 2013 až 2020. V posledních letech byl pozorován pokles toponym odkazujících na department a nárůst apelativ popisujících městský prostor. Mladší rapeři (jako např. Tarik a Nakry) odkazují na prostor spíše pomocí obecných jmen, zatímco tvorba interpretů nacházející se již delší dobu na rapové scéně (Veust Lyricist a Jason Voriz) obsahuje více konkrétních toponym. Co se týče ženských interpretek Jehnii a Fanny Polly, ty odkazují na prostor velmi vzácně.
