The antireligious prejudices of the elementary school children in the ninth grade: The role of religious literacy in the process of attitude formation

Abstract:

Zahraniční výzkumy ukazují značný vliv míry vzdělání na formování postojů vůči cizímu a neznámému i míře předsudku. Tato práce na ně navazuje a zaměřuje se konkrétněji na faktografickou znalost žáků devátých tříd v oblasti náboženství (religionistická gramotnost) a postoje vůči věřícím a nevěřícím. V českém prostředí chybí dostatek výzkumů, které by se tímto tématem zabývaly právě u jedinců v období dospívání a puberty. Cílem této práce je tento stav nahradit a vylepšit. Zaměřím se konkrétně na to, zda mezi religionistickou gramotností a předsudky vůči věřícím a nevěřícím existuje vzájemný vztah. Sběr a vyhodnocení dat proběhlo kvantitativní metodou v šesti třídách na třech základních školách v oblasti Brno-město s celkovým počtem 128 respondentů. Pro zjištění religionistické gramotnosti bylo použito didaktického testu a pro zjištění míry předsudečnosti dotazník s otázkami situační formy. Při analýze bylo použito metody lineární regrese. Výsledky ukázaly vztah mezi religionistickou gramotností a mírou předsudků vůči oběma skupinám. Se zvyšující se religionistickou gramotností klesala míra předsudečnosti vůči věřícím. Ve vztahu vůči nevěřícím byl pozorován mírný trend v opačném směru. Výsledky této práce umožňují pochopit význam religionistické gramotnosti při tvorbě předsudků u žáků 9. tříd a mohou posloužit k vytvoření nových metod práce s mladistvými.

Abstract:

Foreign research shows a significant influence of the educational cultivation and the education’s extent on adopting a stance on unfamiliar and unknown issues, as well as on the level of prejudice. This work was influenced by this research and particularly points at the factual knowledge of religion (religious literacy) and attitudes towards believers and non-believers in the ninth grade elementary school students. In the Czech environment, there is a lack of research that would be concerned with this topic especially in adolescents and teenagers. Aim of this work is to compensate and enhance this state. I will specifically focus on whether there is a relationship between religious literacy and prejudices against believers and non-believers. Collection and evaluation of data was done by the quantitative research method in six classes, in three elementary schools in the Brno-město area with the total amount of 128 respondents. In order to investigate the religious literacy of research’s participants, the didactical test was used and for the prejudice level exploration, a situational questionnaire was applied. The linear regression approach determined the analysis of this thesis. Results demonstrated a correlation between religious literacy and prejudice extent towards both groups. With increasing religious literacy, the level of bias against believers was decreasing. A reversed impact was noticed in the relation with non-believers. Results of this thesis enable to understand the relevance of religious literacy during the prejudice creation in the ninth grade elementary school students, and can furthermore be used for the formation of new working methods with adolescents.
