The work of August Strindberg in the context of European drama at the turn of the 20th century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá obrazem dramatického typu „femme fatale“ ve vybraných hrách Augusta Strindberga, Arthura Schnitzlera a Antona Pavloviče Čechova. Jednotlivé typy těchto postav na příkladu Strindbergovy Tekly, Schnitzlerovy Evženie a Čechovovy Ljuby Raněvské porovnává a hledá u nich podobnosti a rozdílnosti. Nemalá pozornost je v textu věnována dobovým souvislostem, jež nezbytně ovlivňovaly vstup „femme fatale“ do dramatiky a na jeviště, a zároveň byly určující i pro námi vybrané autory. Praktickou část bakalářské práce tvoří reflexe režijně-dramaturgické koncepce a zkoušení hry Augusta Strindberga Věřitelé (1888). Důraz je zde kladen na propojení s teoretickou částí této práce a na komparaci teorie a praxe.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis concerns itself with the archetype of the „femme fatale“ in the selected plays of August Strindberg, Arthur Schnitzler and Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. Examples of these characters – Strindberg’s Tekla, Schnitzler’s Genia and Chekhov’s Madame Lyubov Ranevskaya – are compared and contrasted. The thesis is also focused on the historical context which affected the evolution of the „femme fatale“ as well as the playwrights themselves. The practical portion of the text is a reflection of the rehearsal process of August Strindberg’s play Creditors (1888). The aim is to incorporate the theoretical aspect into the practical rehearsal process and compare them both.
