Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá do jaké míry jsou poslechové schopnost žáků v anglickém jazyce ovlivněné procvičovaným anglické výslovnosti. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části. Nejprve je prezentováno teoretické pozadí výuky výslovnosti. Vysvětlena je terminologie, principy a zvláštní znaky anglické výslovnosti v porovnaní se zvukovým systémem češtiny. Dále práce identifikuje případné těžkosti spojené s výslovností a zahrnuty jsou i praktické návrhy do hodin výslovnosti. V poslední řadě jsou prezentovány principy vztahující se k výuce věnované poslechovým dovednostem. Druha část této práce se zabývá akční rešerší. Skupina dvaceti pěti středoškolských žáků se zúčastnila výuky právě pro ně navržených hodin výslovnosti. Hlavní zaměření však nespočívá v tom, jak žáci vyslovují, avšak jak zvuky vnímají a jsou schopni je uplatnit v porozumění poslechu. Práci uzavírá analýza výkonu žáků v porozumění poslechu, která je porovnaná s jejich schopnostmi porozumět poslechu před blokem výslovnostních cvičení.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis investigates to what extent taking part in English language pronunciation practice affects learners’ listening comprehension. The paper is divided into two parts. Firstly, it presents the theoretical background of teaching pronunciation. It then explains the terminology, principles and features of the English pronunciation system as compared to the Czech system of sounds. Next, the work identifies the difficulties and suggests practical tips to include in the pronunciation lessons. Lastly, the principles behind teaching listening are presented. The second part is concerned with action research. A group of twenty-five secondary school students took part in a specifically designed block of 10 pronunciation lessons. However, the main focus is centred around the perception of the sounds rather than production. The students’ performance in listening comprehension tasks is then analysed and compared to the performance before the pronunciation practice.
