Attitudes towards marriage in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem studie bylo popsat postoje k manželství u vynořujících se dospělých. Konkrétně studie zkoumala souvislosti mezi jednotlivými položkami teorie manželského horizontu se subjektivním vývojovým statusem, a dále pak souvislost postojů k manželství s motivací k sexuálnímu chování. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 414 respondentů ve věku 18 až 30 let. Postoje k manželství byly zjišťovány baterií otázek na jednotlivé položky manželského horizontu, kritéria k manželství dotazníkem Criteria for Marriage Readiness Questionnaire (CMRQ) přeloženým pro účely této studie do češtiny a motivace k sexuálnímu chování zkrácenou českou verzí Perceived Locus of Causality for Sex Scale (PLOC-S). Bylo zjištěno, že mezi skupinami vynořujících se dospělých a plně dospělých jsou v otázkách postojů k manželství jen minimální rozdíly. Byla také popsána kritéria manželské připravenosti z hlediska důležitosti podle vynořujících se dospělých. Ani zde nebyl nalezen rozdíl mezi vynořujícími se dospělými a plně dospělými. V poslední části byl zkoumán vztah motivace k sexuálnímu chování a postoji k manželství. Výsledky ovšem byly z většiny nesignifikantní, v této oblasti tedy nebyl prokázán žádný významný vztah.

Abstract:

The main goal of this study is to describe attitudes toward marriage in the emerging adulthood. This study investigated connections between single items of marital horizon theory and a subjective developmental status and also the connection between attitudes toward marriage and motivation to sexual behaviour. The study was carried out on 414 respondents in the age from 18 to 30 years. Attitudes toward marriage were measured with a battery of questions focused on single items of marital horizon theory. The criteria for marriage were measured with Criteria for Marriage Readiness Questionnaire (CMRQ), translated to Czech for purposes of this study. Motivation to sexual behaviour was measured with Czech short version of Perceived Locus of Causality for Sex Scale (PLOC-S). It was discovered, that there are only minimal differences between emerging adults and fully adults in attitudes toward marriage. Criteria for marriage readiness were described in terms of importance according to emerging adults. There were no statistical difference between criteria for fully adults and emerging adults. In the last part of the study, the connection between motivation to sexual behaviour and attitudes toward marriage was analysed. The results were unfortunately mostly non-significant and no substantial connection was found.
