The role of individuals on the ancient Silk Road

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zaměřit se na roli jednotlivců v rámci střetávání kultur na staro-věkých hedvábných cestách (přibližně od 200 př. n. l. do 400 n. l.). Specificky poté na středně situované neelitní vrstvy společnosti (například obchodníky) a jejich antici-povaný vliv na transformace či prolínání kultur. Nedílnou součástí práce bude v první fázi posoudit střetávání jedinců či společenstev příchozích se stávajícími usedlými kulturami. Ve druhé fázi poté vyhodnotit důsledky těchto střetávání, k čemu tato střetávání jednotlivců či společenstev vedla, se zaměřením na fenomény transforma-cí, prolínaní, či naopak fenomén rezistence a tendence zachování původních prvků kultur. Toto bude uvedeno v kontextu dobových jevů, tendencí, zvyklostí a aktivit, jako například vznik a existence raného dálkového obchodu. V závěru dojde k propo-jení výsledků analýzy údajů a informací z pramenů s nově vytvořenými závěry, které tak budou součástí této přehledové studie.

Abstract:

The goal of this work is to focus on the role of individuals concerning cultural encoun-ters during ancient Silk Roads period (approx. 200 BC to 400 AD). Specifically focus-ing on the middle class non-elite individuals (such as traders) and their anticipated influence on the transformation or interweaving of cultures. An integral part of the work, will be in the first phase, to assess the role of individuals or communities en-counters with the existing sedentary cultures. In the second phase, then evaluate the consequences of these encounters, to which these encounters led to, simultaneously focusing on the phenomena of transformation, interweaving or, conversely, re-sistance and the tendency to preserve the original elements of cultures. Related phe-nomena, tendencies, customs and activities, such as the emergence of early distance trading, will be complemented and summarized. In the end, results of the data analy-sis from the source literature, will be compiled with the newly created conclusions as an integral part of this comprehensive study.
