Insurgency in Mali: conceptualization of phenomenon

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem vzbouřenectví v Mali, během konfliktu, jež vypukl v roce 2012. Cílem této práce je analýza vzbouřenectví v tomto konfliktu a jeho následná konceptualizace, k čemuž autor využívá analytického rámce Paula Brookera z jeho knihy Modern Stateless Warfare. Autor v práci nejprve definuje vzbouřenectví a vymezuje ho vůči dalším pojmům, jako je terorismus a guerilla. Následně je v práci představen rámec Paula Brookera, který je použit v analytické části. Autor se nadále věnuje předkonfliktní historii, aktérům a vlastní dynamice konfliktu. Nakonec autor analyzuje fenomén vzbouřenectví během tohoto konfliktu a pokouší se o jeho konceptualizaci za pomoci Brookerova rámce.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the phenomenon of insurgency in Mali during the conflict that broke out in 2012. The main goal of this thesis is the analysis of insurgency and its subsequent conceptualization during this conflict. For this purpose the author used the analytical framework from Paul Brooker published in his book Modern Stateless Warfare. In the beginning the author defined the phenomenon of insurgency and demarcated it in the relation to other similar phenomena as guerilla warfare and terrorism. Subsequently the author introduced Paul Brooker´s analytical Framework, which is used in the analytical part. The thesis is hereafter focused on the pre-conflict history, the actors of the conflict and finally on the dynamics of the conflict itself. In the end the author analyses the insurgency and tries to conceptualize it with the help of Brooker´s framework.
