Determination of citrates in bones using GC-MS

Abstract:

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was used to determine citrates in bones. This thesis discusses the processing of bone samples, their treatment, optimization of the GC-MS method for citrate determination, analysis of bone samples, and data analysis. The optimized method can be used, for example, to study the relationship of citrate content in bones to the sex of an individual or in the forensic sciences to determine the post-mortem interval (PMI), i.e., the time interval between subject's death and analysis. Due to the availability and code of ethics, bones used in this thesis were not human but animal.

Abstract:

Na stanovenie citrátov v kostiach bola použitá metóda plynovej chromatografie s hmotnostnou spektrometriou (GC-MS). Táto práca pojednáva o spracovaní vzoriek kostí, ich úprave, optimalizácii metódy GC-MS pre stanovenie citrátov, analýze vzoriek kostí a o vyhodnotení získaných výsledkov. Optimalizovaná metóda môže byť použitá napríklad na štúdium súvislosti obsahu citrátov v kostiach s pohlavím jedinca, alebo vo forenzných vedách na zistenie post-mortem intervalu (PMI), teda časového intervalu medzi smrťou sledovaného subjektu a analýzou. Vzhľadom k etickému kódexu a dostupnosti neboli v práci použité kosti ľudské, ale zvieracie.
