Abstract:

Tématem této práce je sledování možné proměny pojetí náboženství v moderní společnosti v díle Petera L. Bergera. Podle Bergera náboženství vzniká v každodenní interakci jedinců. Patří mezi tzv. symbolická univerza, jež poskytují zásadní interpretační rámce veškerých událostí v životech jedinců i celých společností. Taková universa Berger považuje za nejefektivnější nástroj legitimizace. Sociálně-konstruktivistické pojetí náboženství v Bergerově díle zůstává neměnné. K jistému posunu u Bergera ale došlo. V raném období byl jedním z hlavních proponentů tzv. sekularizační teze, jelikož poněkud přeceňoval negativní dopady narůstajícího pluralismu na vědomí jedinců a vztah mezi pluralizací a sekularizací. V 80. letech Berger svou sekularizační tezi přehodnotil a hovořil dokonce o desekularizaci. K proměně tohoto pojetí, jak se domnívám, došlo ze tří vzájemně propojených důvodů. Prvním z nich je změna postavení náboženství ve společnosti během 2. poloviny 20. století. V době největšího rozkvětu sekularizačních teorií bylo náboženství přinejmenším v Evropě a Americe v důsledku sekulárních politických ideologií skutečně poněkud marginalizováno a zatlačeno do soukromé sféry. Od 80. let se ale vrací zpět do veřejného prostoru. Druhým důvodem je proměna samotné sociologie náboženství. Na základě empirických dat z posledních výzkumů, svědčících o neupadajícím významu náboženství ve společnosti, si badatelé uvědomili, že vztah mezi modernitou a sekularizací není tak jednoznačný, a že pravděpodobně existuje mnoho verzí modernizace a globalizace a mnoho rozličných reakcí náboženství na tyto pochody. Třetím důvodem je obecná proměna politické situace a vztahu politiky a náboženství. Současná politika si stále více uvědomuje, že náboženství v sobě skrývá silný mobilizační potenciál, a může být tudíž využito pro politické zájmy. Práce zasazuje Bergerovy teorie do souvislosti s celkovou změnou diskurzu v sociologii náboženství v posledních dvaceti letech 20. století, zejména pak s kritikou tzv. sekularizační teze. V rámci toho je zvláštní pozornost věnována pojmům a koncepcím deprivatizace náboženství, náboženského nacionalismus, desekularizace, dediferenciace náboženství, modernizace, postmodernizace a globalizace.

Abstract:

This paper deals with possible changes in the concept of religion in modern society in the work of Peter L. Berger. According to Berger religion arises in the everyday interaction of individuals. It belongs among the so-called symbolic universes, which provide essential interpretative framework for all events in the lives of individuals and societies. Berger considers such universes to be the most effective instrument of legitimization. Social-constructivist conception of religion in the Berger´s work remains unchanged. But certain shift occured in that. In the early period, Berger was one of the main proponents of the secularization thesis, because he overestimated the negative effects of growing pluralism in the consciousness of individuals and the relationship between pluralism and secularization. In the 80´s, Berger revised his theory of secularization and sopek even about desekularization. I ssume that this transformation of the concept has three interconnected reasons. The first reason is the change in the status of religion in society during the 2nd half of the 20th century. At the time of the largest boom of secularization theory, religion was actually marginalized and pushed into the private sphere at least in Europe and America due to secular political ideologies, but since the 80´s it returns powerfully back into public space. The second reason is the transformation of the sociology of religion itself. Based on empirical data from recent research which shows nondecreasing importance of religion in society researchers have realized that the relationship between modernity and secularization is not so clear, and that probably there are many versions of modernization and globalization, and many different religious responses to these processes. The third reason is the general transformation of the political situation and the relationship between politics and religion. The current policy is becoming increasingly aware that religion holds a strong mobilization potentiala and can therefore be used for political interests. This diploma thesis puts Berger´s theories into the context of the overall change of discourse in the sociology of religion in the last twenty years of the 20th century, especially with the criticism of the secularization thesis. In doing so, special attention is paid to the notions and concepts of deprivatization of religion, religious nationalism, desekularization, dedifferentiation of religion, modernization, postmodernization, and globalization.
