Functions of Conditional in the Czech sentences

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je podat přehled uplatnění kondicionálu v širším pojetí ? z hlediska modální roviny výpovědi a z hlediska tzv. teorie řečových aktů. V první části práce (A) se zaměřujeme nejen na užití kondicionálu prostého, ale sledujeme funkci kondicionálu v rámci větné modality (spolu s využitím lexikálních a intonačních prostředků). Věnujeme pozornost pragmatickému přístupu k jazyku, zvláště v části Komunikační funkce výpovědi. Sledujeme, za jakých podmínek lze indikativ nebo imperativ ve výpovědích nahradit kondicionálem, případně naopak. Všímáme si výpovědí, v nichž ilokuční akt je vyjádřen neobvyklou formou s využitím kondicionálu. Částečně se věnujeme i historii kondicionálu, a to zvláště v období vlivu latiny na šíření kondicionálu u nás. V celé teoretické části práce uvádíme příklady s patřičnými větnými strukturami vytvořenými autorkou, mnohé na základě příkladů čerpaných z použité literatury. Druhá část práce (B) je věnována excerpovaným výpovědím z literatury, zvláště z beletrie, rozdělených podle komunikačních funkcí. Na nich je doloženo bohaté užití kondicionálu v rozmanitých funkcích vesměs v běžných komunikátech.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to present a survey of application of the conditional verbal mode in a wider conception ? from the point of view of the modal level of the utterance and from the point of view of the so-called speech-act theory. In the first part of the thesis (A) we deal with not only the usage of simple conditional, but we follow also the function of conditional in frames of the sentence modality (along with usage of the lexical and intonation means). We concentrate on the pragmatic attitude to the language, namely in the part Communication function of utterance. We follow the conditions enabling replacement of indicative or imperative mode by that of conditional, eventually the other way round. We notice the utterances where illocutionary act is expressed by an unusual form using a conditional. Partly we also concentrate on the history of the conditional mode, namely during the time when Latin influenced a spread of conditional in the Czech language. Within the whole theoretical part we present examples with appropriate sentence structures created by the author, many of them being based on examples derived from the used literature. The second part (B) deals with utterances excerpted from literature, mainly from fiction, divided according to their communicative functions. These serve as examples of rich usage of conditional in varied functions mostly in common communicates.
