The Work of Karel Řepa in Context of the Pardubice Architecture of the Second Quarter of the 20th Century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje dílu architekta Karla Řepy v Pardubicích a zasazuje ho do kontextu architektury druhé čtvrtiny 20. století. Stěžejní část práce se zaměřuje na Výstavu tělesné výchovy a sportu z roku 1931, pro jejíž účely Karel Řepa navrhl v duchu bílého funkcionalismu monumentální pavilony a paláce. Následně je zohledněna také další architektova tvorba, například činžovní a obchodní domy, soukromé vily a v neposlední řadě také pardubické železniční nádraží, jež je významným počinem poválečné funkcionalistické architektury v České republice.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with work of architect Karel Řepa in the city of Pardubice and puts it into context of the architecture of the second quarter of the 20th century. The central part of the text focuses on Sport and Physical Education Exhibition in 1931, for which occasion Řepa projected monumental pavilions and palaces in the functionalist style. Aside of the exhibition, later works of the architect are examined, primarily his apartment houses, private villas and last but not least also Pardubice railway station, which until now remains a very important piece of architecture of our interwar period.
