Abstract:

Tato magisterská práce se zabývala využitím sledování pohybu očí jakožto metodologie zkoumání procesu překladu. Nejprve představuje výzkum překladového procesu spolu s metodologickými postupy, které jsou v tomto odvětví translatologie tradičně využívány, a možnosti kombinace těchto metodologických postupů v kombinaci se nejmodernější výzkumnou metodologií, kterou je sledování pohybu očí. Samotné sledování pohybu očí je dále rozvinuto v následující kapitole, která zmiňuje zkoumání očních pohybů při výzkumu čtení, popisuje fyziologii oka a to, proč je důležitá pro sledování pohybu očí. Dále pokračuje popisem různých typů eye-trackerů a jejich vlastnostmi – frekvencí, latencí, přesností a precizností – které musí být vzaty v úvahu při návrhu experimentu. Tato kapitola dále pokračuje uvedením různých druhů očních pohybů, problémy s jejich detekcí a představením druhů měření tradičně využívaných v pracích zabývajících se zkoumání očních pohybů při čtení a během překladu. Aplikace sledování pohybu očí a různé návrhy experimentů jsou ilustrovány na čtyřech vybraných experimentech zkoumajících psaný překlad za pomoci této metodologie. Jedna z těchto prací sloužila jako předloha pro pilotní experiment zkoumající fixace překladatelů při čtení pro porozumění a při čtení textu za účelem jeho následného překladu. Tento pilotní experiment měl dále za cíl čtenáře seznámit se všemi technickými a organizačními informacemi spojenými s tvorbou experimentu a jeho provedením v laboratorních podmínkách.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with application of eye-tracking methodology in the field of translation process research. It first introduces the eye-tracking process research together with methodologies, which have traditionally been applied in this branch of translation studies, as well as the potential for combination of these methodologies with the state-of-the-art methodology of eye-tracking. Eye-tracking is further developed in the next chapter, which introduces investigation of eye movements in reading research, describes physiology of an eye and its relevance for the eye-tracking research. It further continues with description of the typology of eye-trackers and their properties – frequency, latency, accuracy, and precision – which need to be considered in the experimental design. This chapter continues with introduction of various types of eye movements, problems with detection of these movements and eye-tracking measures traditionally used in papers investigating reading and process of translation. Application of eye tracking and various experimental designs are illustrated on four selected examples of experiments on written translation with aid of this methodology. One of the works served as a basis for the pilot experiment, which investigated translators’ fixations in reading for comprehension and reading in preparation for subsequent translation of the text. The pilot experiment further aimed at providing the reader with all important technical and organizational information on experiment building as well as execution in the laboratory environment.
