The usage of activities focused on intergroup relations as a tool for moderating prejudices against minorities

Abstract:

Bakalářka práce se zaměřuje na zmírňování předsudků vůči lidem s duševní poruchou. Cílem práce je ověřit, zda zprostředkovaný kontakt ve formě psychologických intervencí zaměřených na skutečné příběhy lidí s duševní poruchou sníží předsudky vůči této minoritě. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 49 žáků třetího ročníku čtyřletého gymnázia (17-18 let). Výzkum byl realizován formou experimentu. Žáci byli rozděleni na experimentální a kontrolní skupinu. Intervence absolvovala pouze experimentální skupina. Kontrolní skupina jen vyplnila dotazníky (pre-test, post-test). Efekt intervencí byl měřen upraveným dotazníkem INTERMIN, který zjišťoval postoje žáků vůči lidem s duševní poruchou, sociální vzdálenost, meziskupinovou úzkost a meziskupinovou důvěru vůči této minoritě. Dílčím cílem bylo ověřit vztah mezi emoční inteligencí (měřeno dotazníkem TEIQue-SF) a mírou stigmatizace lidí s duševních poruchou na zvoleném výzkumném vzorku. Dále bylo zkoumáno, zda má nižší míra stigmatizace lidí s duševní poruchou souvislost s častějším cíleným sledováním profilů na sociálních sítích zabývajících se duševním zdravím a častějším kontaktem s lidmi z této minority. Také byl testován rozdíl v míře stigmatizace mezi pohlavími. Zvolené intervence nezmírnily předsudky vůči lidem s duševní poruchou. Vyšší úroveň emoční inteligence žáků je spojena s nižší mírou stigmatizace této minority. Častější cílené sledování profilů na sociálních sítích zabývajících se duševním zdravím a častější kontakt s lidmi s duševní poruchou nesouvisí s nižší mírou stigmatizace této minority. Mezi pohlavími nebyl zjištěn rozdíl v míře stigmatizace lidí s duševní poruchou.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the mitigation of prejudice against people with mental disorder. The aim of the thesis is to verify whether vicarious contact in the form of psychological interventions focused on real stories of people with mental disorder will reduce prejudice against this minority. The research sample consisted of 49 pupils in the third year of a four-year grammar school (17-18 years old). The research was conducted in an experimental design. The pupils were divided into experimental and control group. Only the experimental group underwent the interventions. The control group only completed the questionnaires (pre-test, post-test). The effect of the interventions was measured by a modified INTERMIN questionnaire, which investigated pupils' attitudes towards people with mental disorder, social distance, intergroup anxiety and intergroup trust towards this minority. The partial aim was to verify the relationship between emotional intelligence (measured by the TEIQue-SF questionnaire) and the level of stigmatisation of people with mental disorder in the selected research sample. Furthermore, it was examined whether lower level of stigmatisation of people with mental disorder is related to more frequent targeted following of mental health social media profiles and more frequent contact with people from this minority. The difference in the level of stigmatisation between sexes was also tested. The selected interventions did not reduce prejudice against people with mental disorder. Higher level of pupils' emotional intelligence was associated with lower level of stigmatisation of this minority. More frequent targeted following of mental health social media profiles and more frequent contact with people with mental disorder are not associated with lower level of stigmatisation of this minority. There was no difference between sexes in the level of stigmatisation of people with a mental disorder
