Egyptian and Near Eastern influences on archaic kouros and korai

Abstract:

In my bachelor theses I wrote about archaic greek sculpture, concrete about Egyptian and Near Eastern influences on its developement, especialy on man and women standing figure. Archaic period date from 660 to 480 B.C.. Man sculpture from this period is called kouros and women sculpture is called kore. Kouros is characterized as a nude youth, standing erect in frontal pose, one leg, usually the left, advanced, the arms hanging by the sides, the hand either clenched. Kore is standing female figure, standing erect in frontal pose, with feet close together, or one leg, usualy the left, a little advanced, the arms either hanging by the sides, or one extended and holding an offering, the other lowered and clapsing a fold of the drapery. Greek sculpture were mainly carved from marble. When we compare archaic greek kouroi with egyptian male standing sculpture, there are very similar. At first I deal with historical, social and economical premises, there were necessary for making archaic marble life size sculture. Of course I wrote about origin of archaic sculpture, too, concret about his forerunnes in previous period in Greece and about possible places, where can be at first made colossal sculpture. I introduce something about some egyptian type of sculpture, which is important for developement of greek sculpture. In next chapters I compare similarites a diffences between greek sculpture with egyptian and near eastern sculpture and real human and wrote about its possible influences. In the last chapter I say few about different type of archaic sculpture – about seated figure, flying and running figurines, animal sculpture and about human figurines, that were made from bronze.

Abstract:

V mojej bc práci píšem o archaickom gréckom sochárstve, konkrétne o vplyvoch Egypta a Blízkeho Východu na jeho vývoj, so zameraním na mužskú a ženskú stojacu skulptúru tohto obdobia. Archaická doba spadá do obdoba 660 – 480 p.n.l.. Kouros je charakterizovaný ako nahý mladík, stojaci vzpriamene vo frontálnej polohe, s jednou nohou, zvyčajne ľavou, mierne predkročenou, s rukami položenými pri tele, s oboma dlaňami zovretými v päsť. Kore je vzpriamene stojaca ženská figúra, s rukami položenými pozdĺž tela alebo s jednou natiahnutou a držiacou obetu, s druhou rukou spustenou dolu a držiacou si záhyby sukne. Grécke sochy boli najčastejšie vyrábané s mramoru. Ak porovnáme archaických gréckych kouroi s egyptskými stojacimi sochami, sú si až nápadne podobné. Na začiatku sa zaoberám s historickými, sociálnymi a ekonomickými predpokladmi, ktoré boli nevyhnutné pre vznik mramorových sôch v životnej veľkosti. Samozrejme, spomeniem aj niečo o pôvode archaickej skulptúry, konkrétne predchodcov z predchádzajúcic období gréckeho umenia a možných lokalitách, kde mohli byť v Grécku prvý krát vytesané sochy v životnej veľkosti. V jednej časti načrtnem aj niečo málo o egyptskom sochárstve, ktoré bolo dôležité pre vývoj gréckeho sochárstva. V ďalších kapitolách porovnávam podobnosti a rozdiely medzi gréckym, egyptským a blízkovýchodným sochárstvom a realným človekom a píšem o možných vplyvoch. V poslednej kapitole spomeniem niečo málo aj o iných typoch archaickej skulptúry – o sediacich zobrazeniach, letiacich a bežiacich figúrach, zvieracích sochách a niečo sochách ľudí, ktoré boli vyrábané z bronzu.
