Ecological approach as a key part in education and practice of design

Abstract:

V dnešní době se stále více stáčí pozornost k udržitelnému a ekologickému způsobu života. Designéři se snaží reflektovat zvýšenou poptávku po ekologickém řešení daných problémů, nicméně i oni musí hledět na rozpočet projektu. Aby dílo mohlo být označováno za ekologické, musí splňovat několik kritérií. Právě tato kritéria jsou popsána v teoretické části práce, v této části je též rozebrán způsob vyučování designových předmětů na českých a indonéských univerzitách. Otázka, zda si jsou ekologických kritérií designéři vědomi a zda je aplikují do praxe či vyučování, je zkoumána prostřednictvím rozhovorů s designéry z praxe, kteří rovněž při práci učí na univerzitách v České republice a nebo Indonesii. Obě tyto země mají rozdílné přístupy k ekologickým problémům a s ohledem na fakt, že se Indonesie ještě stále řadí k rozvojovým zemím a Česká republika je součástí Evropské unie, jsou očekávány diametrální rozdíly ve vyučovaných metodách předávání informací relevantních k vyvstalým ekologickým otázkám.

Abstract:

In the current age, we have started to be more focused on sustainable and ecological ways of life. Designers are trying to reflect the demand for ecological solutions to certain problems, yet they are limited by the budget of the project as well. If the work means to be labelled as ecological, it must fulfil a few criteria. These are described in the theoretical part of this work together with the way of teaching design classes at Czech and Indonesian universities. Whether are the designers aware of those ecological criteria, use them in practice, and apply them to teaching, those criteria are analysed through research interviews with designers who currently work in the field and who teach design at universities in the Czech Republic and Indonesia. Both these countries have different approaches to ecological problems and because Indonesia still counts as a developing country and the Czech Republic is part of the European Union, there are diametrical differences expected between teaching methods of sharing information relevant to ecological questions.
