Procrastination and time management in the academic environment

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje tématům prokrastinace a time managementu. Zaměřuje se na akademické prostředí, kde je prokrastinace dle dosavadních výzkumů nejrozšířenější. Cílem práce je zjistit míru akademické prokrastinace u vybraného vzorku studentů Vysoké školy ekonomické v Praze. K tomu byla použita Layova Škála prokrastinace pro studenty. Dále byly ve výzkumném souboru zkoumány rozdíly v míře vykazované prokrastinace u mužů a žen, pracujících a nepracujících a na základě typu bydlení. Rozdíly byly měřeny pomocí statistických testů – t-test, ANOVA. Výsledky výzkumu ukázaly, že všichni studenti souboru v určité míře prokrastinují, z toho středních a těžkých prokrastinátorů bylo 71 %. Významné statistické rozdíly nebyly zjištěny ani u jedné sady skupin. Závěrem práce jsou formulována doporučení, jak by škola mohla pomoci studentům se zvládáním prokrastinace.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with topics of procrastination and time management. It focuses on the academic environment where procrastination is the most widely used research. The aim of this work is to determine the degree of academic procrastination in a selected sample of student of the University of Economics in Prague using Lay's Procrastination Scale for Student Populations. Differences in reported procrastination rates for men and women, working and non-working, and based on the type of accommodation, were examined in this bachelor thesis using the t-test, ANOVA. The results of the research showed that all the students of the target group were procrastinating, 71% of them were medium and high procrastinators. Significant statistical differences were not found in either set of groups. The conclusion of this thesis is a set of recommendations for school how it can help students to deal with the procrastination topic.
