The Formation of the „Bildungsroman” Genre in Hermann Hesse's „Peter Camenzind“ and „Das Glasperlenspiel“

Abstract:

This diploma work deals with the literary genre "Bildungsroman" ("novel of education") in the works of Hermann Hesse. The first part is concerned with the characteristics of this genre. The second part follows with the detailed analysis of the first and the last Hermann Hesse's novels ("Peter Camenzind" and "Das Glasperlenspiel"). The aim of this dissertation thesis is to find out whether both works correspond to the Bildungsroman genre and which elements of the genre are contained there. There are also author's pedagogical ideas and his brief biography mentioned.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje literárnímu žánru „Bildungsroman“ („vzdělávací román“) ve tvorbě Hermanna Hesse. První část se zabývá specifikací a vymezením charakteristických rysů tohoto žánru. Druhá část navazuje podrobnou analýzou prvního a posledního románu Hermanna Hesse („Peter Camenzind“ a „Das Glasperlenspiel“) s cílem zjistit, zda se obě díla svojí podstatou s tímto žánrem shodují a jaké jeho prvky obsahují. Zmíněny jsou též autorovy vlastní pedagogické představy a jeho stručný životopis.
