The visual form of czech performance of the last 20 years and it´s foreign context

Abstract:

Současná česká performance má mnoho podob a její přesná definice je velmi problematická. Stejně tak je nejasná i její pozice v rámci výtvarné tvorby. Jedná se spíše o divadlo, nebo výtvarné umění? Tyto nejasnosti byly ovšem pro mne zároveň výzvou, abych si umění performance zvolila jako téma své diplomové práce. Prvním krokem k pochopení tohoto "hraničního média" bylo seznámení se s obecným historickým kontextem a vývojem a následně srovnání s děním na současné české výtvarné scéně. Původním cílem bylo vymezit okruh visuální podoby performativní tvorby s důrazem na dílo Petra Nikla, který reprezentuje výtvarnou, teatralizovanou formu performance, vycházející z postmoderny. Ovšem při hlubším poznání tohoto žánru se naskytlo tolik otázek, že bylo pro mne najednou nemyslitelné omezit se na monografii jednoho výtvarníka. V úvodu práce jsou nastíněny a kriticky zpracovány různé definice média performance. Dále je zde popsáno několik současných českých festivalů akčního umění v návaznosti na projekty vzniklé v devadesátých letech minulého století. Jednotlivé kapitoly jsou věnovány různým okruhům performance, přičemž u každého z nich byl vybrán jeden, nebo více autorů, jejichž tvorba mne zaujala. Jedná se o tyto okruhy: 1) intermediální performance 2) akce, jenž nějakým způsobem reflektují problematiku genderu a kritiky společnosti 3) performance využívající nových technologií a on line performance 4) body - art 5) performance s dávkou adrenalinového nebezpečí 6) performance vycházející z postmoderny, ve které jsem našla tři polohy: expresivní, výtvarnou a konceptuálně - minimalistickou. Tyto polohy pak reprezentují tři umělci (Klára Kleinerová, Petr Nikl a Jiří Kovanda), jejichž akcím jsem se věnovala nejvíce, a s kterými jsem se setkala při osobním rozhovoru. Na základě toho jsem se pokusila jejich performance srovnat a zároveň najít i analogické prvky a tendence. V závěru jsem se pokusila nastínit rozdíly mezi performance a divadlem, performerem a hercem. Dále pak popisuji komunikační modus, který performance využívá - tzv. performativní jazyk, a také historii a současnost ateliérů performance. V každé kapitole je uveden historický kontext se zahraniční tvorbou, který je ovšem v závěru částečně popřen. Performance totiž nemá jasný historický diskurs, neboť se jedná o živé umění, které úzce souvisí s běžným životem. Studium performance mi umožnilo lépe si ujasnit hranice pole tohoto žánru a pochopit jeho výjimečnost a autentičnost. Zdrojem informací byly nejen rozhovory s umělci, odborné knihy, články a webové stránky, ale především osobní zážitky z některých performance, nebo akčních výstav, kde se stává umělcem - performerem každý, kdo ji navštíví.

Abstract:

Contemporary czech performance art has a lot of forms and it's exact definition is very problematic. In the same way it's position within the frame of art is very indefinite. Is it rather a theatre or a visual art? For me, those equivocalnesses also called upon me to choose performance art as a topic of my diploma work. The first step to understanding this "border medium" was to get acquainted with general historical context and progress and then to compare it with the events at contemporary czech art scene. The original intention was to delimitate the range of visual form of performance with the emphasis on works by Petr Nikl, who represents visual, theatrical form of performance, coming up from postmodernism. But while I was studying this medium more at large, I found a lot of new questions and suddenly realized, that it´s absolutely unthinkable for me to confine myself only to work of one artist. At the begining of my work, there are some definitions of performance art outlined and critically shown. Further, there are some of contemporary czech performance festivals described in sequence of projects originated in the 90's of the last century. Each chapter is devoted to a different form of performance and from each was choosen one ore more artists, in whose works I am interested. I finally found these forms of performance: 1) intermedial performance 2) events, which in any way reflects problems of gender and social critic 3) performance using new medias and on line performance 4) body-art 5) performance with o bit of adrenaline danger 6) performance coming up from postmodernism, in which I found three aspects: expressive, visual and conceptually - minimalistic. These aspects are represented by three artists (Klára Kleinerová, Petr Nikl, Jiří Kovanda). I met all of them during our personal interview and focused mainly on their events. This helped me in trying to compare their performance and also to find some analogical points and tendencies. At the end I was trying to outline differencies between performance and theatre, performer and actor. Furher, I´m describing the communication way, which performance uses - performative language and also the historical and contemporary status of performance workshops. There is a historical context with abroad performance mentioned in each chapter, but at the end some of those facts are partly denied. This is because performance does not have objective historical discursus. It's live art, closely relates to common life. Due to the study of performance I better identified borders ot this art medium and understand it's exceptionality and autenticity. My sources of informations were not only the interviews with the artists, specialized books, articles and websites, but above all my personal experiences from some events or action exhibitions, where every visitor can be performer - artist.
