Microhabitat preferrences of groundhopper Tetrix subulata

Abstract:

Marše jsou pro svůj vzhled, nenápadné zbarvení a malou velikost těla vcelku neatraktivní skupinou rovnokřídlého hmyzu. Proto také neexistuje mnoho informací o jejich biologii, i když v posledních letech studií o nich přibývá. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit a poskytnout lepší přehled o mikrobiotopových preferencích marše obecné Tetrix subulata. Pokus byl prováděn v období od května do června 2014 a to ve dvou teráriích umístěných v interiéru. Data byla získána pomocí metody vizuálního pozorování jedinců. Byly vypozorovány rozdílné preference biotopů u obou pohlaví, což lze vysvětlit tzv. hypotézou segregace ekologických nik. Samci oproti samicím preferovali více listový opad, kde mohli intenzivněji vyhledávat možnosti k páření. Naopak samice preferovaly trávu, kde mohly nerušeně přijímat potravu. Celkově nejoblíbenější biotop byla tráva. Oblíbenost listového opadu a mechu byla přibližně stejná a na plochách bez vegetace (fólie a písek) se marše vyskytovaly jen zřídka. Navíc byla zřejmá preference mechu ve dne a preference trávy v noci.

Abstract:

Groundhoppers for its appearance, subtle coloring and small body size are rather unattractive group of Orthoptera insects. Therefore, there is not a lot of information about their biology, although in recent years, studies on them are increasing. The aim of this study was to investigate and provide a better overview of the microhabitat preferences of the groundhoppers Tetrix subulata. The experiment was conducted in the period from May to June 2014 in two terrariums located in the interior. Data were obtained using the methods of visual observation of individuals. Were observed differences in habitat preference in both sexes, which is explained by the intersexual niche segregation hypothesis. Males compared to females prefer more leaf litter, which could intensify seek opportunities to mate. Conversely, females preferred the grass, where they could eat undisturbed. Overall, the favorite habitat was grass. Popularity of leaf litter and moss were approximately the same. In areas without vegetation (foil and sand) groundhoppers occurred rarely. Additionally, the apparent preference of moss during day and grass preferences at night.
