Awareness of the Public about Risks of Pertussis and its Possible Prevention

Anotácia:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je Informovanost veřejnosti o rizicích pertuse a možnostech její prevence. Práce má teoretickou a praktickou část. Cílem teoretické části bylo přehledně ucelit informace o pertusi z odborných a dostupných zdrojů. V této části je popsán původce onemocnění, specifikovány epidemiologické aspekty pertuse, klinický průběh a možné komplikace nemoci. Jsou zde přiblíženy možnosti léčby, a hlavně prevence pertuse. Dále zde jsou shrnuty poznatky o parapertusi, jakožto onemocnění blízkého pertusi. Hlavním cílem empirické části bylo zjistit míru informovanosti široké veřejnosti o aktuální problematice černého kašle, možnostech prevence nákazy a ochraně novorozenců. Dále byl průzkum zaměřen také na ženy v reprodukčním věku s cílem zjistit jejich postoj vůči očkování v těhotenství. Tato část je založena na kvantitativní metodě průzkumu prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření. Průzkumu se zúčastnilo celkem 186 respondentů a na jeho základě se ukázalo, že má veřejnost dobré vědomosti o aktuálnosti onemocnění a jeho charakteristice. Nedostatky se vyskytly v oblasti prevence nákazy a průzkum také ukázal, že ženy jsou k očkování v těhotenství spíše skeptické. V závěru práce jsou uvedena doporučení pro praxi, jež vyplívají z analýzy průzkumu, spolu s edukačním letákem určeným do ordinací praktických lékařů pro dospělé i pro děti a dorost a do gynekologických ambulancí.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the Awareness of the Public about Risks of Pertussis and its Possible Prevention. The thesis has a theoretical and a practical part. The aim of the theoretical part was to clearly summarize information about pertussis from scholarly and available sources. In this part, the causative agent and epidemiological aspects of pertussis are described, clinical manifestations and possible complications of the disease are defined. Treatment options and prevention of pertussis are presented. The knowledge about parapertussis, as a disease close to pertussis, is summarized here. The main aim of the practical part was to determine the level of awareness of the general public about the current issue of pertussis, infection prevention options and the protection of newborns. Furthermore, the survey was also focused on women of reproductive age to determine their attitude towards vaccination during pregnancy. This part is based on a quantitative research method through a questionnaire survey. A total of 186 respondents took a part in this survey, and based on the research, the public has good awareness of the current status of the disease and its characteristics. However, respondents' shortcomings were found in the area of infection prevention, and the survey also showed that women are rather sceptical about vaccination during pregnancy. At the end of the thesis, recommendations for practise based on the survey analysis are provided, along with an educational leaflet intended for general practitioners, pediatricians, and gynecological clinics.
