Abstract:

This thesis presents the Era of the Sultanate (1856-1964), which once dominated the East African region and which existed for a short time as a free Afro-Asian nation. In this thesis were compared and evaluated various sources on the Sultanate?s and pre-Sultanate?s history, whether primary or secondary, and to obtain the most probable picture of then state. From these data was the most valuable information related to the history of education, social life and economy written down into this thesis, especially that when ocurred major shifts in the Zanzibar?s environment.The author mentions local slavery as well, for it was a major demographic force of that Era.

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o historickém státním útvaru, který existoval po jedno století (1856-1964) ve východní Africe. Autor nezačíná až v období formování samotného sultanátu, ale historii souostroví Zanzibar (a zejména nejdůležitější události) začíná již v období pozdní doby kamenné a pokračuje až do období krvavé revoluce v lednu 1964, která znamenala zánik tohoto státu. Krom historického pojednání autor alespoň částečně odpovídá na otázku kdo jsou Zanzibařané a jaké vlivy je formovali, k nástinu čehož slouží i kapitoly ekonomicko-sociálního charakteru, od muziky taarab, přes slonovinu a otroctví, kterému věnuje značný důraz pro jeho důležitost v historii Zanzibaru.
