Proportion and measure in Pythagorean ideation

Abstract:

Stěžejním tématem této práce je Pythagorův matematicko-filosofický pohled na svět. Pokusím se přiblížit význam čísla v pythagorejském filosofickém systému. Jako nutný předpoklad k pochopení Pythagorovy nauky o čísle je dobré napřed alespoň nahlédnout na Pythagorovu nábožensko-mystickou stránku učení a pochopit jeho dílo v historickém kontextu, o čemž pojednávám v úvodních kapitolách. Zmiňuji také problematiku doložitelnosti Pythagorova díla, přestože tato práce nemá za úkol řešit původnost Pythagorových objevů nebo chcete-li objevů Pythagorovi přisuzovaných. Tato práce řeší zejména číslo jako počátek bytí a jednotku, ze které se skládá jsoucno. Nastiňuje, jak Pythagoras svůj číselný systém odůvodňuje, z čeho vychází a jak ho převádí i do jiných disciplín jako je hudba a kosmologie.

Abstract:

Pythagoras mathematical and philosophical view of the world is the central theme of presented bachelor thesis. I attempt to clarify the meaning of number in Pythagorean philosophical system. Necessary presumption for understanding the Pythagoras number theory is to learn something about religious and mystical parts of his teaching and understand historical background of his work. I deal with these topics in the second and third chapters. The issues of credibility of Pythagoras work are mentioned, although this thesis does not aim to investigate the originality of his discoveries or, if you want, the discoveries attributed to Pythagoras. The fourth, dominant, chapter focuses on the number as beginning of Being, as the unit from which the Beings emerges. It demonstrates, how Pythagoras explains his number system, what are his resources and how he applies this system into other disciplines, such as music and cosmology.
