A second language in education and life: emotive and pragmatic competence and their influence on the constructions of immigrants feeling of belonging in a new society

Abstract:

Dizertační práce se zabývá problematikou integrace imigrantů v kontextu osvojování druhého jazyka. Popisuje základní mechanismy utváření pocitů identitní blízkosti k nové společnosti. Hlavní důraz je položen na představení a filozofické ukotvení pragmatické kompetence jako stěžejního mechanismu, který umožňuje imigrantům v komunikaci identitu rekonstruovat a zároveň navozovat pocity identitní blízkosti k přijímací společnosti. Cílem empirické části dizertační práce je potvrdit, že pragmatická kompetence ovlivňuje identitní blízkost, kterou imigrant pociťuje k nové společnosti. Pragmatisticky orientovaný výzkumný design využívá dvou inovativních výzkumných nástrojů pro ověření vztahu pragmatické kompetence a pocitů identitní blízkosti  test RP DCT (Role Play Discourse Completion Tasks) a fenomenologickou analýzu konstituce významu MCA (Meaning Constitution Analysis).

Abstract:

Dissertation thesis deals with the integration of immigrants in the context of a second language acquisition. It describes the basic mechanisms of creating feelings of identity closeness to the new society. The main emphasis is laid on presenting the pragmatic competence and its philosophical anchor as a fundamental mechanism, that allows immigrants to reconstruct their identity in communication and also evoke feelings of their identity closeness to the hosting society. The aim of the empirical part of the thesis is to verify that the pragmatic competence affects immigrants‘ feelings of belonging to the new society. Pragmatistically oriented research design utilizes two innovative research tools to verify the relationship of the pragmatic competence and the feelings of identity closeness - RP DCT (Role Play Discourse Completion Tasks) and MCA (Meaning Constitution Analysis).
