Resilience of secondary school teachers with workplace bullying experiences

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is the resilience of secondary school teachers who experience bullying in the workplace. The topic is clearly considered topical, despite the fact that there is still a great deal of stigma created around it. Workplace bullying and its various forms, such as verbal innuendo, name-calling, slander, punishment for things a person has not done (psychological punishment) or the creation of psychological pressure on the victim, are a reality in the school environment as well. Mobbing has a number of negative effects not only on an individual's mental health, but also on their physical health, as it can cause various illnesses or health problems and damage. At the same time, the question is whether the impact of long-term mobbing can cause the individual's psychological resilience to begin to diminish or even be destroyed altogether. This will be the focus of this thesis as well. The thesis is divided into 2 parts: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is divided into 3 parts. The first part will get into the definition of resilience, its factors and what role it has in a person's life. The second part will look into the topic of mobbing and its causes. And the third and final part will look at the actors involved in the process of mobbing, the victim and the perpetrator. In the research part of the thesis, it is the resilience level of secondary school teachers who have experienced bullying in the workplace that is examined. The research part is also divided into 2 parts: qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative part of the research was carried out by means of a semi-structured interview method with the participants in question and the quantitative part of the thesis consists of a questionnaire. The main aim of this thesis is to describe the previous experiences of teachers who have encountered bullying in the workplace and to analyse these experiences in relation to resilience. The contents of this section are the theoretical background of the research, its objectives, research questions or limits of the research. The conclusion of the thesis is devoted to the interpretation of the collected data, data and their analysis.

Abstract:

Témou diplomovej práce je reziliencia učiteľov stredných škôl, ktorí majú skúsenosť so šikanou na pracovisku. Tému jednoznačne považovať za aktuálnu, i napriek tomu, že je okolo nej vytvorená stále veľká stigmatizácia. Šikanovanie na pracovisku a jeho rôzne formy, ako napríklad verbálne narážky, osočovanie, ohováranie, trestanie za veci, ktoré daná osoba neurobila (psychické tresty) či vytváranie psychického nátlaku na obeť sú realitou i v školskom prostredí. Mobbing má pritom množstvo negatívnych dopadov nie len na psychické zdravie jednotlivca, ale i na jeho zdravie fyzické, pretože môže spôsobiť rôzne ochorenia či zdravotné ťažkosti a škody. Zároveň je otázkou či vplyv dlhodobého mobbingu dokáže spôsobiť to, že sa psychická odolnosť daného jednotlivca začne znižovať, prípadne sa zničí úplne. Práve toto bude zameraním i tejto záverečnej práce. Diplomová práca je rozdelená na 2 časti: teoretickú a empirickú. Teoretická časť je rozdelená na 3 časti. Prvou časťou sa dostaneme do vymedzenia reziliencie, jej faktorov a akú úlohu má v živote človeka. V druhej časti sa nazrie na tému mobbingu a jeho príčin. A tretia, posledná časť, sa povenuje aktérom, ktorí sú zahrnutí v procese mobbingu, teda na obeť a páchateľa. Vo výskumnej časti práce je skúmaná práve miera reziliencie učiteľov SŠ, ktorí majú skúsenosť so šikanou na pracovisku. Výskumná časť je tak isto rozdelená na 2 časti: na kvalitatívnu a kvantitatívnu. Kvalitatívny výskum bol realizovaný metódou pološtruktúrovaného rozhovoru s danými participantmi a kvantitatívnu časť práce tvorí dotazník. Hlavným cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je popísanie doterajších skúseností učiteľov, ktorí sa stretli so šikanou na pracovisku a analyzovanie týchto skúseností vo vzťahu k reziliencii. Obsahom tejto časti sú teoretické východiská výskumu, jeho ciele, výskumné otázky či limity výskumu. Záver práce sa venuje interpretácii získaných údajov, dát a ich analýze.
