The early struggle for women’s rights in pre-industrial America (1800-1848)

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá postavením a situací žen v americké společnosti na počátku devatenáctého století. Nejprve je zaměřena pozornost na dcery, dámy a matky v každodenním životě od jejich mládí do pozdějších let. Hlavními tématy první části jsou námluvy, manželství, zdraví a mateřství. Práce dále obsahuje vzdělávací a pracovní možnosti žen, které jim byly poskytnuty v první polovině devatenáctého století. Poslední část je věnována ženám, které se podílely na veřejném životě a pracovaly pro různá společenská a reformní hnutí.

Abstract:

The Bachelor’s thesis deals with the status and situation of women in American society at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Firstly, daughters, ladies and mothers are observed in everyday life since their youth till elderly age. Courting, matrimony, health and childbearing are the main topics in the first part. Secondly, it includes educational and working opportunities of women, which were given to them in the first half of the nineteenth century. Last section is devoted to women participating in public life and working for church and various social and reform movements.
