Obesity in social-anthropological context

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje problematice obezity, a to konkrétně z pohledu jejího vlivu na jedince ve společnosti. Vyobrazení obezity v sociálně antropologickém kontextu je významným pohledem, který umožňuje pochopení samotného vzniku obezity a její vnímání okolím v rámci času a prostředí. Práce definuje obezitu člověka a popisuje faktory, které stojí za jejím vznikem či prohlubováním. Dále se věnuje historickému pohledu na obezitu a její vnímání z pohledu různých kultur a prostředí. Hlavní části práce je pak studie, která poskytuje přehledové informace o diskriminaci a stigmatizaci obézních lidí například v oblasti zaměstnání. V této sféře se poukazuje na rozdíly při přijímání zaměstnanců až po rozdíly v platech. V oblasti zaměstnání se věnuje rozdílům mezi druhy zaměstnání, délkou pracovní doby a přechází až k pracovní neschopnosti. Dále je působení obezity zkoumáno v partnerských vztazích a intimním životě, například jaký má vliv při výběru partnera nebo později v partnerství. Vliv obezity se zaměřuje také na část životního stylu, ve kterém hraje vysokou roli veřejná doprava, mediální vliv nebo strava.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the obesity issues, specificially from the point of view of it's influence on individuals in the society. Depiction of obesity in the social anthropological context is the significant view, which allows understanding of the origin of obesity and the perception of obesity by the surroundings within the time and the environment. The bachelor thesis defines the human obesity and describes the factors causing the formation or deepening obesity. Further, the historical view of obesity and it's perception from the point of view of various cultures and environment is discussed. The main part of the bachelor thesis is the study, which provides overview information about discrimination and stigmatization of obese people, for example in the field of employment. In this sphere, the differences at recruitment of employees up to differences in salaries, are pointed out. In the field of employment, the thesis delas with the differences between types of employment, working hours and goes up to incapacity. Further, the effect of obesity is examined in partnerships and intimate life, for example which influence does the obesity have during the choice of a partner or later in partnerships. The effect of obesity also focuses on the part of lifestyle, in which the public transport, media influence and diet play a high role.
