Incentive Foundations of the Theory of Integral Equations

Abstract:

In this thesis we provide a set of motivational problems for the theory of integral equations. We deal with the problem of transforming initial and boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations of first and second order into integral equations. We derive a description of equilibrium in both integral and differential form for a string fixed at its ends. This is done for a string at rest, firstly being acted upon by a finite number of discrete forces, secondly for a continuous force and last but not least for free and forced string oscillations. Next we solve the storekeeper's problem of setting a supply speed for a store from which goods are shipped continuously at a given rate. In the last section, we deal with the Abel's problem - a classic problem of the theory of integral equations about finding a trajectory of a point mass, meeting a set of given conditions. The resulting text is a set of solved problems intended as an accesible introduction to the theory of integral equations.

Abstract:

V bakalárskej práci spracúvame súbor motivačných problémov k teórii integrálnych rovníc. Venujeme sa prevodu začiatočných a okrajových úloh pre obyčajné diferenciálne rovnice prvého a druhého rádu na rovnice integrálne. Odvodzujeme popis rovnováhy struny upevnenej v koncových bodoch v integrálnom aj v diferenciálnom tvare. Činíme tak najprv pre strunu v pokoji, na ktorú pôsobí konečný počet síl, neskôr pre strunu v pokoji, na ktorú pôsobí spojito rozložená sila a v neposlednom rade pre strunu konajúcu voľné a vynútené kmity. Ďalej pomocou integrálnej rovnice podrobne vyriešime úlohu o rýchlosti dopĺňania zásob do skladu, z ktorého je tovar neustále expedovaný. V poslednej časti sa detailne zaoberáme Abelovým problémom - klasickou úlohou teórie integrálnych rovníc o hľadaní trajektórie hmotného bodu spĺňajúcej zadané podmienky. Výsledkom je tak text, ktorý prístupnou formou ponúka riešené úlohy uľahčujúce zoznamovanie sa s problematikou integrálnych rovníc.
