Abstract:

This thesis aims to identify logistics transportation costs within the Kathmandu valley- Nepal and is important for both academic and practitioner readers. The study aims to provide insight into the region’s logistic sector by identifying and assessing the impact of influences factors on companies in the shipping and manufacturing, warehousing, courier & messenger logistic segments. The presence of SMEs as well as a high frequency of daily deliveries is a testament to Kathmandu’s intense logistics landscape. The number and physical dimensions of a cargo lot affect the cost of delivery directly, which enshrines the relevance of efficient cargo management. Transportation mode includes within road, air, rail and ship mode; indeed, most of the operation are within Nepal and more within the Kathmandu valley. Fuel prices also turn out to be a vital factor alongside vehicle expenses and parking fees. Other factors include the choice of transport, taxes, payments for customs clearance, and customs fees, permits, insurance, and storage. The traffic jams also emerge as a big problem since this affects the time of delivery as well as the expenses. The study under consideration focuses on the influence of the government policies and supporting infrastructure on the transportation cost and investigates the internal and external factors which include communication, truck load, road conditions, natural disasters, and strikes. Through its critical exploration of these forces at work, the thesis aims to help stakeholders involved in Kathmandu’s logistics puzzle by offering insights for implementing practical decision-making in the region’s challenging and often inefficient landscape.
