Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou a porovnáním románů My od Jevgenije Zamjatina, 1984 od George Orwella a 451 stupňů Fahrenheita od Raye Bradburyho v jejich historických kontextech. Tato analýza je provedena na základě základních dystopických prvků, které tvoří tyto dystopické romány. Teoretická část se soustředí jak na život Zamjatina, Orwella a Bradburyho, tak na historický kontext druhého desetiletí dvacátého století v Rusku, diktátorské režimy třicátých a čtyřicátých let dvacátého století v Evropě a mccarthismus v poválečném USA. Analytická část zkoumá hlavní dystopické prvky každého románu, jako jsou propaganda, sledování, postava vůdce, destrukce individuality, omezení svobody, informací a nezávislého myšlení a jako poslední stát jako jediná sociální skupina. Poté se pokouší určit, do jaké míry jsou tyto dystopické romány ovlivněny jejich historickým kontextem na základě porovnání jednotlivých analýz dystopických prvků.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis and comparison of Yevgeny Zamyatin’s We, George Orwell’s 1984 and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 in their respective historical contexts. The analysis is made through the main dystopian elements present in the three novels. The theoretical part introduces the lives of Zamyatin, Orwell and Bradbury as well as the historical context of the 1910s in Russia, dictatorial regimes of 1930s and 1940’s Europe and McCarthyism in the post-World War II USA. The analytical part deals with the main dystopian elements of each novel, such as propaganda, surveillance, the character of a leader, destruction of individuality, restriction of freedom, information and independent thought and finally the state as the only social unit. It then attempts to determine to what extent the works are influenced by their historical context based on the comparison of individual analyses of the dystopian elements.
