Poor knowledge of Czech citizens concerning European Union: analysing possible solutions

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce si klade za cíl zmapovat úroveň znalostí českých občanů o evropských záležitostech na základě statistických dat z českých i zahraničních šetření. Text vykresluje souvislosti mezi objemem politických znalostí osvojených občany a jejich postojem k politické reprezentaci, jejich angažovaností v politických otázkách, důvěrou ve zvolené politické zástupce či v politický systém jako takový. Ve druhé části policy paper navrhuje a analyzuje možná řešení nízké informovanosti Čechů o EU inspirovaná rozhovory s experty na občanské vzdělávání s ohledem na evropskou integraci.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis aims to analyse political knowledge of Czech citizens concerning the European Union using both national and foreign statistical data. The thesis also portrays the links existing between the amount of acquired political knowledge and the impact it may have on public opinion, political trust in elected representation or politics as such. Second part of this thesis suggests and analyses possible solutions inspired by interviews with experts on the field of civic education that could address knowledge gaps of Czech citizens in the European matters.
