The Influence of the Ancient Egyptian Religion on the Coptic Church until 451 A.D.

Abstract:

Tématem práce je prozkoumání možné kontinuity mezi staroegyptským náboženstvím a ranou koptskou církví. Vycházím zde jak z některých momentů, které popisují i koptští kněží a autoři, ale také z těch, které sledují autoři více či méně vědeckých studií. V první části se věnuji krátkému nastínění historicko-kulturního kontextu doby před příchodem křesťanství do Egypta. Tedy helénistické epoše, především v rámci změn, které tato doba přinesla Egypťanům. Práce pokračuje načrtnutím rané historie křesťanství v Egyptě od jejích nejasných počátků k Chalcedonskému koncilu, kterým je výklad časově vymezen, (včetně zjednodušeného popisu prvních všeobecných církevních sněmů v rámci Alexandrijských theologických příspěvků). Druhá část textu se již věnuje konkrétním tématům. Motivy možné kontinuity, které jsou zde zkoumány, jsou rozdělitelné do několika hlavních témat; tradice putování {\clqq}Svaté Rodiny`` po Egyptě, kdy se kontinuita může ukazovat v rámci pojetí sykomory, v magii (a lékařských papyrech), která v jisté podobě pokračovala i v křesťanství, v textech legend o mniších a světcích, motivy nacházející se v mýtu o Usirovi, Achnatonova {\clqq}monotheistická reforma`` a také umění včetně hudby.

Abstract:

The main theme of the project is studying a possible continuity between the ancient Egyptian religion and the early Coptic Church. My research is based on certain events described by Coptic priests and authors, as well as on more or less academic sources. The first part gives a brief idea about the historical and cultural context of the period before the arrival of Christianity to Egypt, in Hellenic era, especially in the context of the changes, which it brought to the Egyptians. The project continues with a brief explanation of the early history of Christianity in Egypt from its unclear beginning to the Chalcedonic council, which basically marks the historical boundaries of the project (including a simplified description of the first general church assemblies of the Alexandrian theological contributions). The second part of the project is dedicated to concrete subjects. The motives of the possible continuity, which are being investigated, can be divided into the following main themes: the tradition of the travelling of the `` Holy family{\crqq} around Egypt, where the continuity can be seen in the conception of the sycamore, the magic (and medical papyrus scrolls), which was in certain ways still being practiced during Christianity, in the legends about monks and saints, motives found in the myths about Usir, Achnaton{\crq}s ``monotheistic reform{\crqq} and also in art including music.
